JAMB 2027 Registration: Everything You Need to Know

Every year, over 1.9 million Nigerian candidates register for the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME). If you are planning to sit for JAMB 2027, the time to start preparing — and understanding the registration process — is now. Missing a step during registration is one of the most common reasons candidates face problems before they even enter the exam hall.

When Does JAMB 2027 Registration Open?

JAMB typically opens registration between January and February each year. For the 2026 UTME, registration opened in January 2026. Candidates preparing for JAMB 2027 should expect a similar timeline — watch the official JAMB portal at jamb.gov.ng from November 2026 onwards. Do not wait for the deadline. Registration centres get overwhelmed in the final weeks, errors increase, and you risk missing your slot entirely.

What Documents Do You Need?

National Identification Number (NIN): This is now mandatory for JAMB registration. If you do not have a NIN, visit your nearest NIMC office immediately. Processing can take days or weeks depending on your location.

Valid email address: JAMB requires a functional email you have access to. All correspondence, including your profile code and result, will be sent here.

Passport photograph: A recent, clear passport photo with a white background. JPEG format, not exceeding 25KB.

O Level results (if available): WAEC, NECO, or NABTEB results. You can still register without them but must upload before admission is processed.

Step-by-Step Registration Process

Step 1 — Create a JAMB profile: Go to efacility.jamb.gov.ng and create a profile using your NIN and email. You will receive a profile code via email and SMS.

Step 2 — Purchase the JAMB e-PIN: Buy the registration PIN from any accredited bank or approved vendor. As of 2026, the fee was ₦3,500.

Step 3 — Complete registration at an accredited centre: Visit a JAMB-accredited CBT centre with all your documents. Your biometrics will be captured here.

Step 4 — Choose your subjects and institution: Select four subjects including English Language, your preferred institution and course. Choose carefully — changes cost extra and have deadlines.

Step 5 — Print your registration slip: Always print and keep this. It contains your registration number and exam details.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

Wrong name entry: Your name on JAMB must match your NIN and O Level certificate exactly. A single spelling difference causes major problems during admission.

Wrong course or institution: Many candidates select the wrong course in a rush. Research your desired course, check the JAMB brochure, and confirm cut-off marks before selecting.

Not verifying NIN in advance: NIN issues discovered on registration day cannot be resolved immediately. Verify weeks in advance.

What Score Should You Aim For?

In 2026, JAMB set the general minimum cut-off at 160 for universities and 100 for polytechnics. What Went Wrong the First Time

Most JAMB candidates spend months studying without a real plan. They read textbooks from cover to cover, switch between subjects randomly, and pray that whatever they covered shows up in the exam. This approach explains why fewer than 30% of the 1.9 million candidates who sit JAMB each year score above 200. A 90-day structured plan changes everything.

Before You Start: Set Your Target Score

Before day one, know your number. Not "I want to pass" — a specific score. If you want Medicine at UNILAG, you need 280 minimum. If you want Engineering at UI, aim for 260. Your target score determines how aggressive your preparation needs to be. Write it somewhere you see it every day.

Days 1 to 14 — Diagnostic Phase

Spend the first two weeks doing only past questions. Do not open a textbook yet. Take one full JAMB past question paper per day under timed conditions and mark your answers honestly. Demand and Supply is the single most important topic in JAMB Economics — it accounts for a significant portion of questions in almost every past paper, and understanding it deeply unlocks related topics like price elasticity, market structures, and government economic policy.

The Fundamentals You Must Know Cold

The Law of Demand: As price increases, quantity demanded decreases — all other factors held constant. The demand curve slopes downward from left to right. JAMB tests this in both direct question form and through graphs.

The Law of Supply: As price increases, quantity supplied increases — all other factors held constant. The supply curve slopes upward from left to right.

Equilibrium: The point where quantity demanded equals quantity supplied. At equilibrium, the market clears — no shortage and no surplus.
